Wayne County - For Business Growth. Naturally!

Wayne County's location in the northeast corner of the Commonwealth puts us at the leading edge of expansion from the NY/NJ metro areas, and provides the basis for a rapidly growing labor supply and diverse economy.  Businesses searching for a northeast location will find lower operating costs and a favorable tax climate compared with other northeastern states.  We have a pro-business County government that welcomes investment in our communities.

Several factors will propel economic development in the next decade.  Wayne County sits within the Marcellus Shale region.  Over 100,000 acres - predominantly in the northern part of the County - are under lease by gas drilling companies.  Across the state, Marcellus counties are experiencing an economic boom.  Growth in the support industries, e.g., housing, food service, engineering, pipeline, stone, and water transport, is having a tremendous positive impact on the local economy.  It is predicted that 8,000 jobs will be created and $1.6 billion in income generated through development of natural gas within Wayne County.

Investment in local infrastructure and development of Sterling Business Park will also fuel growth.  Sterling Business Park is a brand new, 252-acre, mixed-use park along Interstate 84 in Sterling Township, Wayne County.  Phase 1 of the park includes multiple lots that could potentially accommodate 350,000 SF of new industrial space. The Central Wayne Regional Authority's new wastewater treatment plant will be operational in 2011, doubling treament capacity to 2.2 MGD within the greater Honesdale area.
